Pratapgad Fort, Maharastra- India.
Pratapgad Fort is located in ,Satara District, Maharasta.
It is 24 km from a well known hill station, Mahabaleshwar.
If you plan to visit Pratapgad, best season is winter. Try to reach on fort at morning upto 10 am, Morning view is very photogenic as it is sorrounded by Sahyadri mountains, and more comfort to explore to fort.
There are not so steps to climb ,as car can reach at door of fort, but little efforts to have to do.
You cannot explore all Pratapgad fort and Mahabaleshwar in one day. After exploring the fort you have to skip some points in Mahabaleshwar . Best is to plan two day or three day picnic to spot all Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar and Pratapgad Fort.



What To See -
On the way Ghats and Hill-rows are main attraction. At Fort First place to visit Afzal Khans tomb . While going on up, different entrance doors, steps, walls reflects the craft and architecture of ancient civil engineering. At top of fort you can visit different view ponts ,observation points, flag points.
At fort pick, there is Statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, inaugurated by late prime minister pndt. JavaharLal Neharu .
There is also a small town on fort villagers, established small shops of your need and buy, you also enjoy meal on fort.
Also you can view Bhavani Temple, Afzal Buruj, Rahat Lake, Mahadev Temple.
History -
This fort was build by Shivaji Maharaj , by his primeminister Moropant Pingle.
Construction of fort was completed in 1656.
A Famous meet of Afzal Khan and Shivaji Maharaj was held here, in which Afzal Khan was killed by Shivaji maharaj ,with a clever move.
The Fort is now owned by Udayan Raje Bhosale, the heir to former Satara princely state.
Care to be Taken-
- While climbing on fort be aware of monkeys.
- Goods at shop quite costly, keep necessary with you.
- Take care of children.
- Go slow ,while driving in ghats.
- In summer wear caps.
- Leave before evening.
