                          As Pune district and nearby places are well known for Forts, and preserved History. Among different forts in Pune district ,Lohagad is a one of fort that have a long history of rulers, wars, and importance.
As it is a hill-fort, going there is a pleasant experience feeling like you are in a lamb of mother nature.
This fort was ruled by different rullers but, mainly by Shivaji Maharaj or marathas.
Travel scope of this fort is vast due to hidden routes, temples, monuments, water tanks, view points or watching points.

From Lohagad Fort you can see Bhaje Caves and Visapur fort. A good food provided by canteens or hotels at base of fort.
Base village is Lohagadwadi. There is a safe parking also available for your vehicles.

You can go by two or four wheeler or by trekking also.
The main season to enjoy nature here is mansoon.

Note - Beware of monkeys, they dont harm you but goods with you. Hold tightly your bags, snack pockets .(if you dont want to share with them).

What To See -
                                       Nature, all around beautiful nature is a main attraction specially in monsoon.

The four main gates -That was used to filter or check the entry of people for security. That gate is still in good condition with wood and metal.

Bhuyar or hidden path, place - Uniqueness of this fort other than near by forts is hidden path.
On this fort and the hill you can find lots of hidden path and places (dont try to follow the path).
This may be due to ,this fort was on trade route and Shivaji Maharaj used this fort to kept treasury he looted from Surat.

Watch Points - To protect the fort from enemies there was several watch points, by observing it you can find its usefulness. Watch points was not only to watch but also there is a provision to make attack on enemies.
Watch points here are still in a good conditions.

Mahadev Temple - There is a  mahadev temple, which is still maintain by villagers, and ahving festival on Mahashivratri.

Rajarani Mandir - Not more information found about this, it is called mandir but inside there is two majars(tombs).

Water Tanks - There are several water tanks , which was used as ,to store water for animals and also for bath as a swimming tanks.

Vinchukada - It is extend mountain which looks like vinchu ( a marathi word for scorpion).
Going toards vinchukada is quite tricky, have to take care of old, and children.
From vinchukada you can view little forest at base and , Navgraha Temple in Lohagadwadi Village.

Big Guns or Tof -  From bottom stairs of this fort you can see these guns. These guns are now scatter all places on fort but looking still in a good condition,ready to fire.
The fort keepers or soldiers was identify that guns with there unique names.

Step-Water wells - Several water wells are there to supply drinking water at fort. Wells name are Ashtakoni, solahakoni like according to number of sides . It has steps to go down. You fell cool near to the well.A Best palce to rest on this fort.


History -
                         This place was significant importance as it was on Ancient trade route, or this place have got importance ,main attraction due to this trade route.
So , many rulers ruled here and develop this place accordingly, to rule over the region,to provide security and shelter to the travelers .
Several dynasties like ,Satvahanas, Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Yadavas,Bahamanis, Nizams, Mughals, and Maraths ruled here in different periods.
Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort in 1648 CE and was made more important as Shivaji Maharaj kept loot from Surat here, and so it became a treasure fort. Due to Purandar treaty Shivaji Maharaj surrendered it to Mughals. But Mughals unable to kept it for more than 5 years, as Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort, in 1670 CE.
Nana Phadnavis in Peswa era , used this fort for living for sometime, and so built some structures here like step-water wells and tanks.
           

How To Go -

                                    This place is near to Pune-Mumbai old highway. You can go by your vehicles as roads are in good conditions or you can go by trekking, path route.
From Bhaje there is a straight road with little ghats ,towards Lohagadwadi, a basevillage at Lohagad Fort.

Malavali is a nearest railway station, from where you can go by path route .By path route you will required 2 or three hours to reach at fort.

Nearest Airport is a, Pune airport.
