General Information :
This Fort place is throughout the year, tourist attraction
at Goa.It was constructed in 1612 , The word
‘aguada ‘ in Portuguese means water and the fort seems to have got its name
from the freshwater tank inside the fort. You can witness here
glory of Portuguese architecture, sea view and the light house.
Sunsets are the most favorite attraction of tourist, who
wants to see the colors of nature in the sky, or colorful welcome to the
evening.
Panjim to Aguada fort distance is 15.9 km and needs nearby only
45 minutes.
If you want to stay here, Taj group hotel is the place near
fort.
Timings 9.30 am to 6.0 pm on all days, for fort.
For light house 12 noon to 5 pm on all days.
What to see :

Fort itself -
Structure of the fort is still you can see as it was , at most of places.
Light House -
It
was built in 1864, a four strayed structure. You can take a view of
surroundings from light house view point.
At that time it was built to guide the ships at sea and
monitor the enemies.
Moat -
It
surrounds the fort, that was a architecture defense strategy.
Aguada Trek -
If you want
more adventure ,you can take a trek of 2 km, to reach the fort.
Aguada Jail -
It is one of the largest jail in Goa, where accused of drugs sale and trafficking
are lodged.
No need to worry , it all safe and nobody allows you to go inside.
Sinquerim beach and the
Mandovi river.
History :
This
fort was built by Portuguese ,construction period 1609 to 1612.
The main purpose of this fort was to protect the area from Maratha's
and dutch, and provide base for Portuguese ships.
The fort was said to have seventy nine cannons for
protection.
The fort was also served as a prison for political detainees
, during Salazar administration.
How to Go :
Panajim is the landing point to reach here.
You can easily find train, Flight or Bus from Mumbai or Pune
to reach Goa (Panjim or Margao).
